Amanda C. Alvarez-Dieppa, PhD

Amanda is a professional salsa dancer with 15 years of experience. She was born and raised in Puerto Rico, where she started her dance training in ballet at the age of 5. For a long time her focus was ballet, but at fourteen years old she was introduced to the world of competitive salsa dancing when she was invited to perform at the World Salsa Open in Puerto Rico. That is when her love for salsa started. For years she performed at different salsa congresses and competitions in Puerto Rico. She then started her undergraduate degree in Neuroscience at NYU, and for 5 years had the opportunity to dance and teach at different events in NYC. Later on she moved to Dallas to pursue a PhD in Neuroscience at The University of Texas at Dallas. While completing her graduate studies she stayed involved in the Dallas salsa scene by participating, teaching, and performing at different events, including the Dallas Salsa Congress.
